In the direction of application basic research and demonstration and extension of tropical oil crop and palmae plants pest, research work was carried out on early diagnosis, emergency disposal and biological control of pests and diseases. Among them, "using natural enemy parasitoids to control invasive pest Brontispa longissima Gestro" and "Basic and key technology research on prevention and control of important invasive pest Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Oliver" awarded the special and the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hainan Province, respectively. The "Integrated Control Technology of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Oliver " went abroad and build a demonstration base for integrated control of date palm diseases and insect pests in Dubai , the United Arab Emirates.

Plant Protection Research Department (PPRD) is mainly engaged in the biology, ecology, pathogenesis , disaster mechanism and integrated control technologies of Brontispa longissima Gestro, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Oliver, Opisina arenosella Walker, Tirathaba rufivena Walker. Integrated prevention and control technology,biological characteristics and harm mechanism of yellow leaf disease of Areca, stem bleeding disease of Coconut truck rot disease of coconut were studied. PPRD has 15 scientific and technical members, including 9 senior titles and 6 doctors.

Research Achievements
1. Prevention and control technology of invasive pest coconut leaf beetle use natural enemy parasitic wasps.
The Tetrastichus brontispae Ferrière and Asecodes hispinarum were introduced to Hainan from Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan and Ho Chi Minh University of Agriculture and Forestry in Vietnam in 2004, and established parasitic wasp breeding factory and field release technology was developed. Previously, this technology has effectively solved the outbreak of Coconut Leaf Beetle disaster in 2002 in China, and has been demonstrated and promoted in tropical areas of China.
3. Integrated Control Technology of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Oliver
Aiming at the main causes of red palm weevil disasters, a technical system for monitoring, early warning and comprehensive management of red palm weevil disasters was established, based on early sound diagnosis and pheromone trapping technology, and the sustainable control of red palm weevil disasters was realized. Relevant technical achievements have been popularized and applied by more than 30 units in China, covering 11 provinces and regions in south of the Yangtze River. At present, the technology has been successfully demonstrated in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and "Comprehensive Control and Prevention Demonstration Park for red palm weevils " has been built, and demonstrations in Saudi Arabia and Oman are also steadily advancing.

3. Research and demonstration of targeted control and integrated prevention and control technology for areca yellowing disaster
Aiming at the complicated causes of areca yellowing disaster, a synergistic model of biological control, physical and chemical control, ecological control, pesticide reduction and synergism was preliminarily constructed by combining targeted control with comprehensive prevention and control. The synergistic application of different types of special fertilizers, synergists and water-retaining agents was carried out to increase yield, reduce yellowing and improve quality and build the "water-soil-fertilizer-medicine-tree" model. In Tunchang, Wanning, Ding'an, Baoting county in Hainan Province, 5 demonstration gardens for prevention and control were established, covering an area of 800 acres. No new disease centers were found in light disease gardens, and the yellowing rate was controlled within 10%. Diseased plants in medium disease gardens emerged green leaves and began to rejuvenate as a whole. Diseases in serious disease Gardens stopped expanding, and diseased plants emerged new leaves, and the demonstration sites turn for grew well as a whole.

4. Research and utilization of pollution-free control technology of Tirathaba rufivena walker.
The main pest of Areca catechu (Areca catechu L.), T. rufivena in Hainan Province as the research object, the present harm situation, biological and ecological characteristics, occurrence regularity and natural enemy resources of T. rufivena in the main areca producing areas of Hainanwere investigated and clarified. The biological control factors with biological activity were screened out. The new formulat and pesticide formulation for T. rufivena were developed, and own intellectual property rights in pollution-free control of the T. rufivena.
