In September,2009, Liu Liyun, a researcher from Coconut Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, successfully completed a one-year mission in Comoros jointly appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Idi Nadhoim, vice President of agriculture in Comoros, fully acknowledged Liu Liyun's work and presented him with an honorary certificate at the farewell ceremony of Chinese assistance to Comoran agriculture.
During the time in Comoros, Liu Liyun was mainly responsible for agricultural work on tropical crops such as coconuts. Together with staff from the Comoran ministry of agriculture, he conducted a detailed survey of the production of tropical crops such as coconuts in various production areas and formulated a new plan for the feasibility of tropical crops; After full investigation and study, combined with the local agricultural production situation, a simple and practical training material was compiled to train the local agricultural technicians and farmers in the aspects of tropical crop seedling, grafting, cutting, high-altitude layering, pruning and integration, disease and pest control and so on.
