On June 11th, 2018, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Micronesia and China, "2018 Training Course on Coconut Disease Control Technologies in Micronesia" was held in the Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia. The Training Course was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and undertook by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences.
More than 40 people, including Governor of Yap State Tony Gananngiyan, Deputy Governor James Yangetmai, Chinese Counsellor to the Federated States of Micronesia Li Cuiying, Project Officer of the Ministry of Commerce Li Wei, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences Liu Guodao, Training Specialists and participants from Yap State, attended the opening ceremony.
Micronesia's officials expressed warm welcome to the experts from the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences and looked forward to the training course implemtned sucessfully. Micronesia attaches great importance to the development of coconut industry. It is hoped that through the training course, local farmers could learn about coconut knowledge and apply it to production and then to improve the economic benefits of farmers.
The training course will be held for 25 days and will be held in four states, Yap, Chuuk, Kosrae and Pohnpei in Micronesia. The training course will focus on the identification of coconut varieties, high-yield cultivation, comprehensive processing and inter-planting technologies, and comprehensive prevention and control of coconut pests and diseases.
