Headed by Marcelo K. Peterson, Governor of the Pohnpei State of the Federated States of Micronesia, a delegation of 2 officials and experts visited the Coconut Resreach Institute and exchanged ideas with researchers in the CRI on April 28th, 2019. The two sides exchanged on the construction of the China- Micronesia Coconut Standard Plantation Demonstration Park and future cooperation. Wang Fuyou, Director of Coconut Research Institute, Fan Haikuo, the member of the committee, and relevant scientific and technical officials participated in the activities.
At the meeting, Director Wang Fuyou expressed sincere welcome to the Pohnpei State Delegation, and introduced the new varieties of high-yield coconuts, seedling breeding and cultivation techniques, and the vision of the construction of the China-Micronesia standard coconut plantation demonstration park. The Coconut Standard Planting Demonstration Park was built into the science and technology center of South Pacific Tropical Agricultural Technology Center.
Governor Marcelo K. Petersen thanked us for the detailed arrangement of the entire Hainan trip and the warm reception. He expressed our achievements were very impressive which contained the cultivation technology of new coconut varieties, the large-scale breeding technology of coconut seedlings, the technology of inter-planting, the comprehensive control technology of coconut leaf beetle and red palm weevil, and the cultivation technology of ganoderma lucidum based on coconut dead leaves, natural coconut oil preparation and deep processing technology. It is hoped that experts from Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences will transfer these technologies to Micronesia to promote the development of the Micronesian coconut industry.
