On November 26, 2020, Dr. Fu Dengqiang from the Arecanut Research Center of the CRI was invited to Chongxing Town, Wenchang City, to conduct training on high-efficiency arecanut cultivation techniques. More than 50 farmers participated in the training.

Dr. Fu first introduced the new arecanut variety "Reyan No. 1" to the trainees, and the new arecanut high-efficiency cultivation techniques such as scientific fertilization and water-saving irrigation,explained the new technology of arecanut hanging pesticide bag to control coconut leaf beetle and the simplified application technology of arecanut special fertilizer. The arecanut hanging pesticide bag is simple and quick to operate, and has good effects on preventing diseases and pests. The simplified application technology of arecanut special fertilizer has the characteristics of balanced nutrient supply and good absorption and utilization. In the arecanut field, Dr. Fu demonstrated to the trainees new techniques for efficient cultivation of arecanut through practical operations, and the trainees learned and experienced new methods and techniques actively.

The training is one of the contents of the Wenchang High-Quality Farmer Cultivation Project hosted by Wenchang Agriculture and Rural Bureau,  undertaken by the Training Center of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences. Through the training, the farmers planting arecanut have improved the technology of arecanut cultivation and management and learned more about the latest technological achievements of arecanut production. The training courses have been well received by local farmers.
