On September 3, coconut planting and underforest intercropping technical training activity have been held in Hainan-Pohnpei coconut plantation, and hosted by coconut expert of CATAS, China and the Resource Development Bureau, Pohnpei, Micronesia.
40 high school students from the Kolonia central school participated in the training. This training demonstrated the techniques of wide-row and narrow-row coconut planting style, as well as the techniques of intercropping forage and pineapple. The CATAS expert explained in detail the advantages and characteristics of standardized coconut planting and under-forest intercropping planting methods, which can improve land utilization and increase farmers' income.The students were very interested in the scientific and standardized three-dimensional planting model and asked many questions about tropical agriculture knowledge.
The successful holding of this training event promoted advanced tropical agriculture technology, disseminated scientific planting management concepts, and stimulated students' interest in tropical agriculture.
