Taking the opportunity of promoting the exchange of international cooperation projects to continuously promote the tropical economic palm science and technology cooperation between Coconut Research Institute and Pakistan

On the afternoon of September 23, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and Faisalabad Agricultural University of Pakistan jointly held an online exchange meeting hosted by Coconut Research Institute on the Hainan Key R&D Project "Pakistan Tropical Economic Palm Production Technology Integration and Demonstration".

Kinggrass provided by Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences is an understory intercropping crop in the date palm orchard. It has strong adaptability and good production in Pakistan, and is very popular in Pakistan. At the exchange meeting, Li Kaimian, vice president of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, presented kinggrass to Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan, Counselor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, and Dr. Aman Ullah Malik from Faisalabad Agricultural University in Pakistan hosted the Pakistan kinggrass distribution ceremony. At the meeting, the two parties also exchanged views on the production technology of intercropping kinggrass in palm orchards, trial planting of oil palm and coconut, field release effects of the pheromone trapping prevention and control technology of red palm weevil, and technical training courses. The project is currently progressing smoothly.

Li Kaimian, vice president of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, said that through this exchange meeting, the tropical agricultural science and technology cooperation between China and Pakistan would be further improved. Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan, Counselor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, said that the Pakistani Embassy in China would continue to provide strong support to promote China-Pakistan agricultural cooperation. Chen Yangxi, Director of the Achievement and Cooperation Office of the Hainan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, said that the two parties will take the project as an opportunity and use the platform established by this meeting to further promote the comprehensive development of cooperation and exchanges between Hainan Province and Pakistan in tropical agriculture.

Wang Hui, vice director of Coconut Research Institute, research fellow Cao Hongxing, and Xu Lijing, project team member, attended the meeting.
