Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan, Counselor of the Embassy of Pakistan in China Visited Coconut Research Institute,CATAS

On the morning of September 24, Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan, counselor of the embassy of Pakistan in China and other officials visited Coconut Research Institute, CATAS and they exchanged views on the implementation and the next step plan of the Hainan Key R&D project "Integration and Demonstration of Tropical Economic Palm Production Technology in Pakistan" which is executing by Coconut Research Institute, CATAS.


At the exchange meeting, the main person of project , Dr. Cao Hongxing, reported on the progress of the project. The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the planting and distribution areas of oil palm and coconut in Pakistan, the production status and main technical requirements of date palms, and the characteristics of pheromone trapping prevention and control technology of red palm weevil. They especially hoped that the pheromone trapping prevention and control technology of red palm weevil can be promoted in Pakistani date palm orchards in the next step. Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan said that agriculture is an important area of cooperation between China and Pakistan, and tropical economic palm plays a very important role in production and life of Pakistan. It is necessary to coordinate and support Coconut Research Institute, CATAS and Pakistan in related tropical economic palm research and production-related agricultural science and education, and cooperation between institutions and enterprises, in addition, taking this project as an opportunity to continuously promote the demonstration and application of palm production technology in Pakistan.

The delegation of the counsellor also visited the research and experiment base for oil palm, date palm, coconut and betel nut.
