Officer of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development Visited the Coconut Research Institute of CATAS

On September 26th, Osama Rayis, as the director of the entrepreneurship office of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (an agency directly under the Arab League) visited the Coconut Research Institute  of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Scicences (CRICATAS). Associate researcher Li Chaoxu, associate researcher Xu Zhongliang and Dr. Li Qihong accompanied Mr.Osama to visit the tissue culture laboratory of date palm and China-UAE date palm friendship forest. They introduced the origin of date palm friendship forest, the main cultivars and the research results of tissue culture of date palm seedlings in CRICATAS, respectively. In the biological control laboratory, Dr.Lu Chaojun introduced the green control technology of red palm weevil and coconut rhinoceros beetle to Mr.Osama, and visited the core palm germplasm resources nursery.

At the conversazione, Xu Lijing, thedirector of the Center for International Cooperation and Exchange of CRICATAS, warmly welcomed the arrival of Mr.Osama, and introduced the main research crops, key research directions, scientific research progress and the main business currently carried out by CRICATAS. After that, Mr.Osama introduced the service scopes and work objects of the entrepreneurship office of the Arab Agricultural Development Organization, and expressed the intention to cooperate with CRICATAS on the scientific research work, mainly focusing on coconut and date palm in planting, tissue culture and disease and pest control, hoping to cooperate with CRICATAS in personnel training, technology export and project application.Finally, he discussed with Ms.Xu Lijing on how to carry out cooperation between both sides.
