Experts from CRICATAS Participated in the First FAO Technical Workshop on the Implementation of the “One Country One Priority Product”Initiative for Demonstration Countries and Promote New Technologies

From July 15 to 18, 2024, Wang Hui, Deputy Director of Coconut Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CRICATAS), and the delegation participated in the first FAO technical workshop on the implementation of the one country one priority product (OCOP) initiative for demonstration countries, which was jointly organized by FAO OCOP Secretariat and CATAS, and introduced the developed new products and technologies to foreign experts and leaders in detail. The first technical seminar for demonstration countries to implement the “One Country One Product (OCOP)” initiative was jointly organized by FAO OCOP Secretariat and Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) in Sanya City, Hainan Province, and introduced the new products and technologies.

During the meeting, Xu Lijing, Director of the Center for International Cooperation and Exchange of CRICATAS introduced the achievements of new varieties of coconuts and oil palms, high-efficiency cultivation, green prevention and control and processing to Ian Mohammed, OCOP National Focal Point, Director of Research Division of Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Trinidad and Tobago in detail and Ian Mohammed looked forward to cooperation in the future in the field of human resources training for tropical crops such as coconuts. Mr. Tsebang Lebata, OCOP National FocalPoint and Seed Multiplication Officer, Department of Crop Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Lesotho, was also briefed on the advanced experience in date palm tissueculture seedlings; Associate Researcher Lv Chaojun introduced and demonstrated the advanced red palm weevil physical control technology to Ms. Meeta Punjabi Mehta, Senior Food Systems Officer of FAO Asia-Pacific Regional Office. Mr. Baitani Mushobozi, OCOP National FocalPoint,National Professor Officer of FAO in Tanzania, expressed his intention to purchase 50 sets of red palm weevil control equipment and looked forward to future cooperation.

At the fourth meeting of FAO-China Technical Advisory Group ( TAP ), Deputy Director Wang Hui said that Coconut Research Institute of CATAS will actively respond to and support the FAO "One Country One Priority Product" Global Action for the Green Development of Characteristic Agricultural Products initiative, and the experts will actively provide technical support for tropical crops such as date palm, coconut and oil palm to promote the implementation of the 'OCOP' national project. Through the exchange between the demonstration countries, CRICATAS will seize the opportunity to promote the advanced technology 'go global', and promote the 'OCOP' to participate in the cooperation of the green agricultural industry chain between countries.
