Education Background

Yang Yaodong, an Agricultural biotechnologist, received his BSc degree of Marine Biology (1989) from the China Ocean University, China; MSc in Aquaculture from University of Ghent, Belgium and his PhD in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology (2004) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.

Research Area

Dr.Yang joined CATAS in December 2010, bringing more than 15 years’ experience in plant cell and molecular biology research. He worked as a postdoc researcher in Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and as a Research associate in Delaware Biotechnology Institute (USA) for 5 years. Dr. Yang has a solid background in plant cell and molecular biology with emphasis on protein and membrane trafficking and targeting, auxin transport, cell to cell communication and macromolecule trafficking, cold-responsive and adaptation of tropical oil crops, and fat acid synthesis and metabolism regulation, a keen interest in development of molecular markers and functional gene and trait analysis of excellent trait for tropical oil crops, and to carry out important agronomic trait QTL association analysis and positioning for tropical oil crops. In recent years, more than 30 peers-reviewed SCI papers (with total IF>107) have been published on the top journals like The Plant Cell, Nature Cell biology, Current Biology, Plant physiology and so on. As leading scientist of the biotechnology division, Dr.Yang responsible for ensuring the quality and scientific relevance of the research programs and for making sure that the research area under his leadership is regularly reviewed and assessed.
