Education Background
Wang Yong, received his BSc degree of Horticulture (2003) from the Henan Agricultural University, China, and his PhD in Pomology (2011) from the Huazhong Agricultural University, China.
Research Area
For evaluation and utilization of germplasm, collected more than 20 oil palm germplasm and introduced 6 commercial varieties from Asia, Africa and Latin America, developed 5 molecular markers linked to agronomic traits, and now working on screening of cross combinations based on phenotype and genotype analysis, which will provide important materials for oil palm breeding.
For tissue culture, based on integrative analysis of transcriptome, proteome and metabolome, working on the regulation mechanism of oil palm embryogenesis so as to provide technical support for industrialization of clonal seedlings; also working on genetic transformation for gene function verification and molecular assisted breeding.
For supporting industrial development, based on on-the-spot investigation in over 10 major producer countries and close cooperation with local oil palm research institutions, providing consulting service and technical support for Chinese enterprises to establish their overseas investment on commercial oil palm plantation in “Belt and Road” tropical countries.
