Education Background
Tang Longxiang, a coconut scientist by training, received his master's degree of agronomy(2000) from the China Tropical Agricultural University, China.
Research Area
Mr. Tang has assigned to work in Coconut Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CRICATAS). Meanwhile, he was a part-time professor of Hainan University and Huazhong Agricultural University, a master tutor of germplasm resources, crop cultivation. He had served as director of resources and breeding research office, director of crop cultivation research office of Coconut Research Institute, standing director of Hainan soil fertilizer society, expert of Hainan agricultural science and technology service "110", Chinese coordinator of international coconut genetic resources network (COGENT), Chinese coconut expert designated by Asia and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC).
Mr. Tang had been engaged in coconut scientific research, which involved coconut high-yield cultivation, innovative utilization of germplasm resources, standard formulation (revision) and so on. Up to now, he undertook more than 20 international and national projects, such as "Overcoming Poverty in cooperation-growing Communities" funded by the ADB and IFAD: Coconut based Resources for Sustainable Livelihoods ", coconut cultivation and management technology training of tropical agriculture new technology training for developing countries, etc. He also presided over and participated in the completion of more than 20 achievements, some of which were awarded more than 10 scientific and technological progress awards by the Ministry of Agriculture, Hainan province and so on. More than 10 agricultural standards had been formulated (revised), such as specifications for description of coconut germplasm resources (NY/T1810-2009), coconut seeds and seedlings (NY/T353-2012), and coconut seeds and seedlings breeding technology regulations (NY/ T2553-2014). More than 60 papers had been published, and more than 10 books had been published from Mr. Tang, such as ‘practical techniques for coconut cultivation and management’ and ‘coconut fertilization techniques’, etc.
As the leading scientist of the innovative team of coconut cultivation, he also researched on the mechanism of coconut fertilization and provided new technology to farmers in recent years. The team members are as follows:
